Extracting 50 Ways To Hex Your Lover

50waystohex72.jpgPrologue

Alderley Edge, Cheshire, England
The Year 1313

“Someone’s thoughtless use of magick has put our school in great jeopardy.”

Emerald velvet robes flew around the reed-thin body of the headmistress as if a storm brewed within her. Red and blue flames flashed from the foot of her staff as she tamped it to punctuate her words with the ring of cold stone. Not one of Eurydice’s thirteen students moved a muscle as they stood in line awaiting her judgment.

On their first day at The Academy for Witches the headmistress had laid down the rules and pronounced there would be no exceptions if any of those rules were broken. Yet today, her cardinal law had been broken—one of the students had gone so far as to cast a curse on a mortal. She walked down the line of girls, spearing each of them with her angry gaze.

“We are sor—” one of the girls sputtered.

“Silence!” Eurydice turned on her heel to face down the unlucky witchling. “Whoever cast the spell must step forward and be accountable for her actions.”

Not one of the acolytes spoke up. All thirteen stared at the ancient stone floor.
“Your shared silence to protect the guilty one is laudable.” Eurydice’s dark eyes matched the flames flickering at the end of her staff. Still no one moved. “However this offense was committed against a member of royalty. A man with the power to close this school, do us harm, even destroy us. I am certain some would commend you for not betraying the classmate who cast this spell, but the culprit must step forward and accept her punishment.”

The girls looked at each other, linked their fingers together and then, as one, all thirteen stepped forward.

“Very well. As you will have it,” Eurydice said. The air around her swirled dark and purple as she pronounced judgment. “Henceforth, all of you are banished from this place and are cast out into the world for 100 years with only the powers you presently control. If any of you dares to cast a spell not meant for the greater good, your banishment will be extended. At the end of your banishment you will be brought before the Witches High Council to determine your final fate.
“And I hope—” she made eye contact with each girl who managed to meet her furious gaze “—you will learn just what a merciless mortal world you have been cast into.”

Then she tamped her staff against the cold, unforgiving stone floor and the thirteen acolytes vanished.

The headmistress turned to face the three elder witches standing quietly by the wall.

“Do you think they’ll be all right, Eurydice, all alone in the world?” Allene, the softhearted, asked. “Do you think they’ll be in danger?”

“Hardly, dear sister,” the headmistress chuckled. “I fear more for the world.”

Indeed, I would fear for the world too, but Jazz and her friends are good witches…right?

The Beth Williamson Round-up

The Introduction. Our friendly author is Battifully Wonder Wonderfully Batty indeed.

The Guestblog. The Bat(ty Wonder) flies out of the laptop. Yes. She can travel through the internet and pop out of your laptop. Be afraid. Be very very very afraid.

The Excerpt. This happens to be one of my fave scenes in the book.

The Review. I suspect that The Legacy lost at least half a point for being what it is: a Western.

The Cowboy Invasion, Pt II. Shannon Stacey has lost all of my respect. She said she would get her revenge…but where is she? She’s nowhere in sight, probably scared off by Beth’s guns.

The Contest Winner…is Becky, the Cowgirl Rebel! You’re a girl after my rebellious heart, alright. Now contact Beth to get your prize which is a download from Beth‘s backlist.

Thanks be to Beth Williamson for guestblogging and doing a giveaway.

Her upcoming releases include Marielle’s Marshal (August 31st), Devils on Horseback: Nate (September 25th), and Branded (November 6th), all from Samhain Publishing.

In the meantime, stay in touch with her by visiting her blog for your regular does of Battiness from the Batty Wonder.

PS I swear. I posted this yesterday…but it decided not to post!

The Annie Dean Round-Up

The Introduction. I’m still not sure that Annie Dean’s a superheroine. She’s all mysterious and sekritive about it. But you know, there’s no better way to hide than to hide in plain sight….Eh, Annie, you very Devious.

The Guestblog. Oh Mexico, here I come! Or not. It’s hot there. I mean, really hot.

The Excerpt. Oh my… There’s another excerpt here.
The Goodness. Do some good, peeps!

The Contest. Is still ongoing. Will draw a winner tomorrow, NOON EST. If you’re lucky, the timezones are in your favor and you’ll get your copy of Your Alibi, which yours truly hasn’t read yet, before the rest of the world gets their hands on it.

The Shannon Stacey Round-Up

The Introduction. Yes. It’s true. Shannon‘s a stripper. That’s why Ezzie don’t give her no respect.

The Answer:

1. On a scale of one to ten, rank your current level of insanity–where ten is belongs-in-lunatic-asylum insane–and tell us why.

Oh goodness….I usually think I run about an 8.5, but then I see other writers having the same chaos I do, but with a full-time job or a newborn or something throw in. So maybe a 4 as a rule, but today’s approaching 9.

My family would say Ezmerelda earns me a solid 10, though, so who really knows? )

The Review. Taming Eliza Jane is Good.

The Excerpt. Taming Eliza Jane is Funny. Laugh out loud Funny. Jaci Burton thinks so, and so does Emma Wayne Porter!

The Cowboy Invasion, Part the First. Beth Williamson is threatening to bring her six-guns with her for Part the Second because Emilio Estevez? Not so hawt. When you’re comparing a guy to his father and he comes out wanting? Not good. When a guy is not good and you still have to do him? Not sure I want to be the woman who made Beth do him.

And why is Beth Williamson here? Why she’s another author with a taste for Cowboys. Come back later in the month for more.

Shannon Stacey had better watch her step. Don’t think she’s going to be forgiven easily for Emilio Estevez. My advice? Bring your six-guns too. Superheroine or not, getting shot is probably an experience nobody needs. 😉

Esmeralda decided that since Taming Eliza Jane was being published, it was time for her moment of glory. Go read Hearts A’-Giddy-Uppin’. Instalments to follow.

The Contest. Comment to win!

And that it’s for Shannon Stacey. Do check out her blog/website, buy Taming Eliza Jane and I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated on Becoming Miss Becky and other Shannon Stacey releases.

Introducing Shannon Stacey

Shannon Stacey is the secret Robin Hood of the Posse.

Oh yes, she is.

Can you guess her super-secret Posse name yet? I’ll give you a clue, it has Stripper in it, but it’s not what you think it is.

You can’t?

Why she’s the Shiny Stripper, of course, stripping shiny stuff off the necks of evil supermodels modelling hundreds of thousands worth of jewelry, which she then sells. The proceeds, naturally, go to the poor.

She also has her very own sidekick: Ezmeralda the Guatemalan Worry Doll. Ez shares their weekly exploits on Shannon the Shiny Stripper’s blog on Fridays, so head on over to find out what they’ve been up to.

Normally, as you all know, our lovely victims guests and interviewees have to answer the infamous question:

1. On a scale of one to ten, rank your current level of insanity–where ten is belongs-in-lunatic-asylum insane–and tell us why.

But I forgot to send it to her. In my defense, I was fending off Ezmeralda’s attempt to write this post for me–Ez said something about how it should be all about her and I had to wrestle it back, because it’s not all about her. (No, I’m not sucking up even though I really really want to read Becoming Miss Becky)

So Shannon, please answer that question in the comments. 🙂 She will be taking questions, comments etc!

We also have a contest, so stay tuned for that!

I wouldn’t wait until Saturday, if I were you to get Taming Eliza Jane. So head on over to Samhain Publishing to get your copy now!
